Hey! So this is my blog for my summer abroad! I'll be spending just under a week in Italy with my best friend Michelle who was studying at a university in Florence. Then it's off to Ukraine for my internship at Father's Care, an organization that works with street kids in Kyiv. Everyone knows I am the worst about these types of things, especially since I still have pictures from Moscow last summer that have yet to make it from my "My Pictures" file to Facebook. So bear with me, I'm going to try my best to keep this updated :) Oh, and become a follower. Like an actual follower by clicking "become a follower," because it will make the both of us cooler.
Well, I am exhausted. I feel like I haven't slept in days and I am feeling that gross "I've been traveling for hours and have been exposed to all sorts of pathogens, and I really want to shower and do my makeup, and my ears WILL NOT POP" feeling. But it's okay, because I'm in Italy :) The flight from DC to Frankfurt might have been 28 hours, but I'm not really sure. Lufthansa is awesome, also, I love their food. Fat. From the sky, Germany looked pretty perfect, all the little storybook homes were too cute. Going through Frankfurt felt like just another U.S. airport. English everywhere, and I didn't even get lost. I was a little confused when I had to go through security again, but we all know the Germans don’t mess around. Four or five people started talking to me in German asking me where they could find this terminal or that gate. So I'm not sure if that's because this is Germany, because of my blonde hair and blue eyes, or because I am actually pulling off the Euro look. I'm guessing it's the first or second :) There is no air conditioning on this continent! I'm already not very fond of the Euro, I definitely paid like $7 for a fruit cup in Frankfurt without really realizing it. Sorry, Mom. Oh, and I'm trying not to smile too much, because we all know Americans are the only people who walk down the street showing off their white teeth looking like fools smiling at every one haha.

I arrived in Florence Saturday, June 20th. I met up with Michelle and the fam at our hotel, and we left to climb the Duomo, which was amazing! The view of Florence was absolutely phenomenal! We went to the market and looked at all kinds of leather and other Italian trinkets. Michelle, Nick and I ate some pizza in a cute little outdoor cafe for dinner, so good :) When we got back to the hotel, I repacked my bags, and pretty much CRASHED! This morning we wandered around Florence for a little while, and headed to the train station for Milano!
Milan is really cool and actually reminds me a bit of Moscow. Not too sure how Italians would feel about that, but I think it's great! Today we went to see Leonardo's da Vinci's The Last Supper at Cenacolo Vinciano, and it really was breathtaking. Then we went to dinner, and I had the first pasta since I've been in Italy. It was absolutely delicious, and the whole restaurant atmosphere was really enjoyable. Tomorrow we are headed to Lake Como for the day, just a bit outside Milan. SO EXCITED to be more in the countryside :)
I disagree with your teeth comment. Show off those teeth...hopefully you'll inspire someone haha.
